Students will play Jeopardy in preparation for their Unit 2 test tomorrow. They need to know plate tectonics (divergent, convergent, subduction, and transform movement and causes), landforms, natural disasters, and basic information about the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Wednesday, Oct. 26
Today students will be introduced to the definition of culture and shown how to do their personal culture collage. This is an at home assignment and will be due next Wednesday, Nov. 2. Directions for the project can be found here. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thursday, Oct. 27
Students will define culture, cultural region, and civilization in class today. They will need their books in class and will be completing an in-class assignment with the book.
Friday, Oct. 28
Today we will be discussing Mexico's Day of the Dead in class. This is a wonderful example of a cultural holiday. We will watching a short video, then coloring pictures of the holiday in class. I'll be sending home information about the movie Book of Life which we will be viewing next week.
Week 8
Monday, Oct. 10
Students will begin working on their natural disaster project for my class. Directions can be found here. This project will be due at the end of class on Friday, October 14. Students will be provided poster paper (11"x17") or they are welcome to bring a poster board from home. They will also have access to a class set of Chrome Books from Monday until Thursday. Today we'll be looking at how volcanoes form and plotting the Ring of Fire on a map. This will also allow us to review and practice our latitude and longitude skills!

Today students will have the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker! She will be talking to us about her time in Haiti, and how the earthquake there impacted the economy and culture.
Thursday, Oct. 6
Students will continue learning about natural disasters today and we'll pick partners for our natural disaster project beginning next week.
Friday, Oct. 7
Today is picture day! We'll take pictures then come back to class with enough time to take our notebook check and talk about our natural disaster project we're beginning next week.

Students will return to working on the five themes of geography by looking at post cards and identifying which of the five themes is presented in each. This will be followed by a review for Thursday's test.

Monday, Sept. 12
Today we will be discussing the events of September 11, 2001, focusing on the service animals that helped save lives that day.
Tuesday, Sept. 13
Students will return to working on latitude and longitude today in class. We will begin the hour by working independently on a latitude and longitude crossword puzzle, and check our answers together at the end of the hour. This is an in-class assignment and is not homework unless the student does not finish at school.
Wednesday, Sept. 14
We will be transitioning away latitude and longitude today and will begin learning about the 5 Themes of Geography. Students will take notes in class with the aide of Mr. Help.
Thursday, Sept. 15
We will continue our lesson of the 5 Themes of Geography by creating an illustrated flip book in class. Students will have all day today and tomorrow to complete this assignment. Any work not completed by Friday, Sept. 17 will need to be completed for homework and brought back for a grade on Monday, Sept. 19.

Please note that I do not need your home address or any identifying details. Students who do not feel comfortable mapping their own homes may map a friend or family member's home, or create a house. This is just an exercise to get our brains thinking about map development!

Thursday, Sept. 8
Today we'll be looking at latitude and longitude and practicing this developing skill as a class. Home maps are due tomorrow at the beginning of class. If you did not finish during class time please make sure you're working on it as homework!

Welcome to 6th grade! Today we'll be introducing ourselves by playing a fun get-to-know-you game! We'll also be practicing our class policies and procedures and going over our World Studies syllabus.
Tuesday, August 23
Students will continue to practice World Studies policies and procedures today in class. We'll set up our interactive notebooks, answer the question "If you could go anywhere, where would you go?", and apply for class jobs.
Wednesday, August 24
Today class jobs will be assigned and we'll continue to look at class policies and procedures. We'll play another get-to-know-you game, and quiz ourselves on the seven continents.
Thursday, August 25
We'll begin studying the seven continents of the world today. Students will work in groups to learn more about each continent, and make a continent book in class.
Friday, August 26
We will continue our continent review today, as well as cover the five major oceans.
